NEW SICKNESS ABSENCE RULES IN DENMARK

On 4 January 2010 the last part of the new sickness absence rules (rules concerning documentation of sickness absence for employees) became effective.
In outline, the new rules will cause the following changes:

  • the "medical report of incapacity for work" is no longer applicable
  • a new kind of statement - the "possibility statement" - is introduced
  • the obligation to arrange a sickness absence interview
  • the employee may ask for a "retention plan"
  • the possibility to ask for a so-called "free statement
